Sooner or Later…

‘The Need is the Calling’

Oh how I promised myself that once I had a blog of my own it would not be neglected, would not be left forlorn, would be updated on a regular basis.  I should have remembered by own title because sooner or later…the best laid plans go astray.  That’s the way life works.  Time that was scheduled to be spent learning about blog keeping is being spent tending a 3 yo with a diagnosis (finally) of RAD.  This is a good thing…and I wish it had been a sooner rather than a later.

Tonight is the monthly women’s meeting.  This past fall I’d decided to try to be more involved in church activities–not that our small church has many to choose from.  And as often happens in small churches, once you show up regularly you get a job.  So after three meetings and one election my official title is:  ”Devotion Leader & Bulletin Board Keeper.”  Here is my first devotional–inspired by Cindy at “Big Momma Hollers”.  (As soon as I figure out links it’ll get linked)

‘The Need is the Calling’

Have you heard this phrase?  ”Many of us struggle to discern God’s calling on our lives, often never really finding it, not realizing it is not an audible voice but rather it is the need that we see before us that is calling us to action.”  There are needs everywhere,  many—if not most–we will never see or notice until someone calls them to our attention:  Did you see…Did you know…Isn’t it a shame that… It isn’t these unnoticed needs that stand before us as a calling, instead it is the ones we  ourselves notice.  The times that we  are the ones saying:  Did you know…Isn’t it a shame…Someone ought to do something…

“If someone is feeling a tug in their heart, then that’s the calling. That’s how God calls people:  The need is the calling.”  And with the calling will come the equipping.

So what have you noticed?  What needs have you seen?  God is calling…are you listening?

“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, that great Sheppard of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever.  Amen.”   Hebrews 13: 20-21 NIV

    Stephanie,

I can certainly relate to the time involved with a RAD kid. I assume you are referring to Reactive Attachment Disorder. I have 2 boys, both with RAD although it is much more sever for the older one. Raising a RAD child is truly a calling from God. May God bless you, and all those who fight to heal these children.

I didn’t realize there were two with the same initials. This is Reactive Airway Disease. The assistant described it as a ‘pre-asthma’ condition. He doesn’t (right now) need daily meds, but we have to be very, very careful when he gets colds. At the first sign of a cough we have to start his meds. This is a relief as the previous dr’s assistant wanted to go full-guns-blazing asthma meds. Our oldest son has asthma and the difference is obvious to anyone who takes a few minutes to listen & think. But if it had been diagnosed sooner we might have avoided a lot of misery for our little guy.
