I couldn’t take one more step…

Mother in law is in the hospital and its not looking too good.
It all started on a trip back home to Illinois–the place where all her family but us are, the place she lived sixty years of her life.  It was a family celebration of her parents 65 years of marriage yet saving the big […]

Bad news on the doorstep;  I couldn’t take one more step.       Don McLean “American Pie”

Some days are just like that.  We were at my oldest dd’s home when the letter came for her husband.  He had joined the Marines as a 17 yo, 9/11 occurred just before 18, and was invading Bagdad at just past 19.  After […]

Microchips in the news…

Microchip technology is in the news again.  Background:  company called CityWatcher.com has injected two employees with microchips.  These are RFID tags, whose most common use is to keep track of various types of inventory (library books, uniforms, store items) and “contactless” payment cards.
But the news that Americans had, for the first time, been injected with electronic identifiers to perform their jobs fired […]

For the future herbalist

Found this site that looks to contain nearly everything a future herbalist could want for at home learning.  Many links to drawings of plants, down-loadable manuals, formularies, a dispensatory manual, and classic texts for many different areas of herbology.  A person could lose an entire day browsing.   Not that I would or anything.

For Anna…

Paging through blogs I ran across a link to Mustard Seed Journal who is devoted to living a simpler, greener life.  Her post on the simplicity of her home made me think of my friend Anna (hope its ok to call you that) and her desire to get rid of the *stuff* in her life.  So […]

Not quite flying

Well the trip is not quite as flying as planned.  Turn around time was good and Dh should have been home about 7ish last night.  But, about an hour into the trip he noticed the truck not handling quite right and looking back saw black smoke coming from a rear wheel-well.  Seven hours later found him […]

A Flying Trip

Posted: Sunday, July 15th, 2007 @ 11:55 am in Family at Large, Homelife | No Comments »

Grits and Dh (her dad, my dh) left for a *flying* trip to Illinois in the *now* Chicagoland area.  They left last night around 7 pm and will be heading home around noon.  Why?
Well, Sister C. (my sister) called about two weeks ago to let me know that her future fil was selling in 1990 […]

Because I need on more thing to do…

I bought four rose plants at Walmart.
The roses are marked down to $4.00 apiece and I have just the spot for them.  Because it is so hot and humid in the South in July it is very easy to see which roses are in dire shape and which are holding up well.  In my humble opinion, […]

A list as long as my arm

Posted: Thursday, July 12th, 2007 @ 11:11 pm in Homelife | 2 Comments »

Why, oh why do pregnant women suddenly become list makers?  Why does it suddenly become important to get *everything* done before the baby arrives?  Most things on the list will be undone in a day or two and does the baby really care?  We tell ourselves that if x gets done then y will be […]
