Outside
Brian surprised me the other day by tilling the garden–just in time for it to rain that night. We had a mild discussion of the shrinking size and where it used to be. Yesterday he retilled and made it wider–much more than I had ever wanted. But there are storms/rain headed our way so I went out and planted what I could. See last year I waited until rain passed & dried out and it took almost 3 weeks, way too late for a southern garden. The late freeze & then drought…
This year I’m taking no chances. I put in 19 store bought cabbages (now that we have the extra space somewhere else to move some tomatoes to I’m indulging). They are planted square foot style. My beds are not permanent though I’d like too eventually. The cabbages are about 8 inches apart (one garden trowel). As they grow I’ll harvest every other one to give the bigger ones more space. So far there’s red cabbage & the “Market” variety. I’d like a good storage and need to start that for a fall crop. Just need to decide how to finish the bed (it will get light shade later on)
The kids & I also planted a double row of yellow “Cherokee” beans. They are a dark seed so if the ground is still a bit cool they should still be alright. I really thought I had bought more beans (purple & contender) but they are not with my seeds. *sigh* now a trip to the store–OH! I ordered them online from southern exposure so I guess an email is in order.
Have to decide where to put potato bin/barrel and garlic. I know that fall planted does better (thanks to Sister C) but want to get started with a garlic bed. MUST get flowers for the ends of rows those sticks are too tempting for the little guys running around the place.
Chicks are growing like chicks. Gave them some dandelion greens for the first time–popular with a few.
Little Missey had her first time outdoors in the grass & has the dirty feet and grass stained bottom to prove it! She is dead tired from all that work. Binky keeps her from eating whatever she can pick up.
Think I may have figured out where to put a beehive! but need to study it more. I’ll post pictures and let someone comment.
Still got a house to clean, but not as much. Still doing Oklahoma! till mid-May but not into the heat of Annie! (thank God for small favors)
And after beginning the day by cleaning up a sick mess, the day has turned right around.
hmmm…the date is off on my camera.

Asya loves the grass, too, and we do the same thing. . . pacifier to keep it out of her mouth.
I love to watch babies exploring outdoors!

By the way, is your Little Missey sitting stably?

Then I guess our littlest girls are at right about the same point!
Somehow we skipped past sitting up. Asya is going all over with the “comando crawling with some up in the air.” I just realized that she’s so intent on crawling, that she hadn’t tried sitting, so I’ve been deliberately working on that with her. She can do it, but she tips over a whole lot. And she’d much rather be on her tummy–moving!–so it’s hard to keep her upright.
