I am embarrassed

Or perhaps apologies to our Canadian neighbors.
Once again Martinzoo posted some more wonderful homeschool ideas.  While I love the idea of participating in the backyard bird count it isn’t going to happen this year.  But the tomatosphere project is entirely different.  Let’s see–nature study, gardening, 4H, and something Mommy loves to do–sounds like a winner!!
So with Little […]

First garden catalog arrived!

The first garden catalog of the season has arrived!!  Garden season is just around the corner!!
It seems odd to be thinking of gardens and seed planting before December arrives, but moving to the south as changed the garden planning in ways that I’m still trying to learn.  We have just been rezoned into 6b/7 meaning earlier […]

For the future herbalist

Found this site that looks to contain nearly everything a future herbalist could want for at home learning.  Many links to drawings of plants, down-loadable manuals, formularies, a dispensatory manual, and classic texts for many different areas of herbology.  A person could lose an entire day browsing.   Not that I would or anything.

Because I need on more thing to do…

I bought four rose plants at Walmart.
The roses are marked down to $4.00 apiece and I have just the spot for them.  Because it is so hot and humid in the South in July it is very easy to see which roses are in dire shape and which are holding up well.  In my humble opinion, […]

Browsing through my fellow bloggers I came across Martinzoo , her blog rating, and the post that earned her rating.  Too funny.
So being the curious person that I am I decided to see how my site would rank.  I’m so tame it should be ‘G’ easy.  Guess what…NOT!!

WHAT??
Here’s what did me in:  death (3x), d*ck (2x) […]

Favorite Garden Tools

My list is short and to the point:

A good rear tine tiller. They simply go deeper and are much, much easier on the body.  If you are breaking up new ground it is the hands down winner.  Troy Built are my dad’s favorite–they are pricey but the larger models come with attachments.  Someday I hope to have […]

Favorite Gardening Books

After listening to garden tips and advice where does a gardener go if they want to know more?  To a good book of course.  The shelves are full of garden books but my list has slowly been whittled down to these.
If I could afford only one book it would be “The Encyclopedia of Country Living”. by […]

10 Garden Tips
I’ve been gardening since I was small.  Along the way I’ve learned a few things  that just seem to make things just a bit easier.  There aren’t any plant by this date tips as different parts of the country are just too…different.  Besides, when we lived in Illinois the comment was I could […]

Gardening Tip

Here’s my favorite gardening tip.  Instead of marking rows using sticks plant a small flower from a garden center 6 pack.  Sticks tend to disappear–small children, weather, migration–but flowers stay put.  The edge of the garden looks lovely and no more trying to remember exactly where that last row was planted.
